Tournament Info
Tier: Premier 5, Prize Money: $2,365,250, Surface: Hard, Director: Salah Tahlak
Launched as a men's tournament in 1993, what is now known as the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships became a joint event in 2001 and that same year the players voted it as the WTA's Premier Tournament Of The Year, an honor it was awarded again the following year.

The tournament is staged at the picturesque Aviation Club, which features the immensely popular Irish Village pub and an extensive range of recreational and entertainment facilities including a gym and spa. The Dubai Tennis Stadium also serves as a leading concert venue.

Justine Henin has the tournament record with four titles followed by Venus Williams with three. Other former champions include WTA superstars Lindsay Davenport, Elena Dementieva, Martina Hingis, Petra Kvitova, Amélie Mauresmo and Caroline Wozniacki. Liezel Huber has the most doubles titles in Dubai history with five.

Dubai Duty Free is the event owner, organizer and title sponsor. A WTA sponsor since 2004, its partnership has been marked by leadership and innovation, including sponsoring the first Middle East tournament to award equal prize money and being a strong supporter of the growth of women's tennis in the region.

Strategically located between Europe, Asia and Africa, Dubai is one of the seven emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. With almost constant sunshine and a growing reputation as an essential place to do business, the city attracts global attention through innovative real estate projects like the world's tallest building - the Burj Khalifa - and the famous sail-shaped hotel - the Burj al Arab. In addition to featuring major construction and development, Dubai hosts a number of world class sports events and conferences.

Cici wins the opener, next up Aga. At least, she won't blown out of court.

She's up 5-2 in the decider w/ a real chance to put Aga away.

Thanks for the update. Not actually watching any matches. Nowadays, they are asking me to actually work at work. :cry

ORDER OF PLAY - SATURDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2017 FINALS

CENTRE COURT Starting at: 5:00 pm
Andrea HLAVACKOVA (CZE)/Shuai PENG (CHN) [6] vs Ekaterina MAKAROVA (RUS)/Elena VESNINA (RUS) [2] 26 64 7-10
Not Before 7:00 pm
Elina SVITOLINA (UKR) [7] vs Caroline WOZNIACKI (DEN) [10] 64 62

A good week for both players. Fatique had a bit to say in the result but it's deserved win for Svitolina who is new in TOP 10 at #10 and Caroline one place up #14. On the race list Svitolina is new #2 and Caroline new #5 - but two finals in two weeks is promising for her year. Now comes a week of rest before she return to Indian Wells for her next tournament.

Cici is now at #56. Will probably get into at least top 32 by year end. :clap

That in turn will make her a seeded player in slams next year and should get her into at least top 20 next year.

But, she needs to put on some weight and increase the physique to share the court with power hitters.

Cici is very good for a young player and could be the savior of American tennis when the sisters retire, her game seems effortless...

What is going on with Aga? She is playing badly. Injured?

I'm with AP. Picking Keys or some other power hitter over a counterpuncher to become an American slam winner after Serena.

I doubt it. She has a good serve and power. But, she is just another MLBB.
