Most regular tennis fans know who Denis Shapovalov is but some of you guys might not recognize him well so I will start with a little introduction.

Denis Shapovalov is a tennis player from Canada. Although he was born in Israel, his mom decided to bring him up in Canada. His mother is also the one who has been Denis Shapovalov's coach since the start of his career. His mother was a tennis player herself back in her day and is also his inspiration for wanting to take up tennis as his sport.

He is admired by some for his wonderful style which has different elements like a service that is pretty like John McEnroe's, a forehand that is spontaneous and agile somewhat Rafa like and a one-handed backhand that seems to seem like Roger's. It doesn't stop there. He is known for his quick thinking and creative shot making abilities to throw off any opponent at will. Fans would consider him to be one of the most creative players on tour at the moment.
He had an ATP ranking of no. 8 at one moment which is his career-best. He reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon 2021.
He has three titles to his name. His most recent title came at Dallas Open which is a ATP 500 tournament.
He beat Rafa at the Canadian Masters in 2017.

When Denis Shapovalov begun his career the whole world had him on the watch list when he defeated Rafa at the Canadian Masters in 2017. People naturally expected a great career from Denis going forward in his career and enthrall us all with some great Wimbledon trophies. But, Denis Shapovalov was unable to match the lofty height of expectations people had for him. Nevertheless, we admire him for who he is. He plays for the love of the game. He plays for beauty. We respect him for that.

Today, I decided to make a thread for all the Denis Shapovalov fans. You guys can post and share stuff about Denis here. All fans can support him here.

I am afraid you will find more doubters than fans in here, but I for one like the kid a lot. I do still have a hard time figuring out his game, and the role improvisation plays in it.

lol you made a funny comment saying that his improvisation doesn't seem to be helping him out much....

let us wait for the opinions of others...

besides, I do believe he would have some fans here and there.

@Shivashish Sarkar , the improvisation thing is tricky. Being able to improvise, as he clearly is, is obviously a very good thing. The problem is when you rely too much on it.

Anyway he is generally a very entertaining player to watch

I sort of see Shapo in a similar light as Alexander Dolgopolov from a decade or so ago. Dolgo's play was...weirder, but both had a kind of "improvisational flair" that made them look impressive in moments. Shapo, I think, is legitimately more talented than Dolgo was.

Interesting comparison but Dolgopolov was more unorthodox than anything else. Shapovalov's game, on the face of it, is quite orthodox. It is him who is unorthodox, if that makes any sense...

Yes, absolutely - which is why I said Dolgo's game was "weirder." Ha.

Anyhow, I could see Shapo having a nice run over the next few years....he's got the talent to be a top 20 player, if not closer to top 10. I don't think he'll ever be consistent enough to be elite, though - and the elite and "sub-elite" field is pretty deep right now.

More than glad to see your entry in this thread I created. You are the best tennis statistician I have ever seen. Besides, you are an elite poster on this website.
