Well I tell you, after a long drought of big titles being defended during the recent years, I think Caro winning New Haven was a small one a couple of years back, this year has been a dandy.
It started with a bang.
Vika defended Aussie Open!
Off to The Asia tour in February, Vika defended Qatar, a 1000 point premier level event!
We went to March and that was Serena's month, she won Miami for a record 6th time and defended her title in Chaleston.

Now we are in April and Maria just defended her title in Stuttgart.

The writting is on the wall! Signs of things to come this year?

Lets report them as we see them.

I will wait and see if Serena defends Madrid. If she defends, then we are on for a clay season. I think that is what Serena has been culminating her hard work toward another French Open title. Serena has to do well this clay season and pick up major points at the French, so she has wiggle room in case she does not defend as much this summer. I will consider anything less than a finals or win at the French a failure for Serena since she has been working so hard to get her game and fitness in order.

I concur. Serena has been working hard for the FO title. The changes in her game seems to be geared for winning this title. I don't propose to know her thought process, but IMO anything less that winning the FO will be viewed as a failure for her.

This week we have Kaia Kanepi defending title in Portugal.
But we are all waiting for next week, aren't we?
