Rounds 1 of the Davis cup ahead this weekend.

15 of the top 20 players not playing, meaning a lot of countries that could do better probably will not.

My predictions:
Croatia-Spain: Strong Spanish team even without Nadal takes out Croatia who are playing without their top 3 players.

France-Japan: Strong French team makes short work of overmatched Japan.

Belgium-Germany: Zverev brothers power Germany to a win over Goffin-less Belgian team.

Russia-Serbia: Serbian team with Djokovic easily handles Russian youngsters.

Argentina-Italy: Italian team takes opportunity to beat defending champs playing without del Potro.

Canada-Great Britain: Probably the most interesting match of the round, leaning towards Murray-less British youngsters over Raonic-less Canadian youngsters due to Dan Evans' recent form.

Australia-Czech Republic: Kyrgios plays well for his home tennis association when he's not feuding with them. He leads them to a victory over Berdych-less Czechs.

Switzerland vs. USA: USA sending a strong team to handle Swiss team without the top two one-handed backhands in the sport. Easy day for the Americans.

In short, I am predicting that both finalists from last year lose first round this year. R2 results way too hard to predict yet because who knows who will show up to play in that round.

This DC is going to be very interesting and more looking the Spain's group. Feli 35 years old and Marc 34 are "aging" but playing doubles it doesn't mean too much. Then Carreno 25, Bautista 28 and Ferru 34 (even this one is not playing so well anymore) can do a very good job against any other group and of course much better than these last two years, it seems that they will emerger again and I'm sure they will get more help later

It's funny ..when D.C. Is suppose to be about pride about your country but for the past 10 plus years,,I have been rooting for the Spanish Armada too.

When Nadal retires, will you be still on board with the Armada? :-/

I thought that the Lopez "brothers" would win the doubles but.....the responsibility now goes to Carreño (hope he will do better than yesterday) and Bautista who did pretty well, VAMOS!!!!!!!!

That was a poor result by the Lopez duo. They looked favorites on paper.

A shame that the Zverev brothers lost.

Can't believe Germany is on the cusp of going out to Belgium in the first round. :(

What would Boris say?

Zverev is by himself! His backups are aging or ranked outside the top 30! They talked about this on TCC Anchor show where it was discovered past winners of the DC had at least 1 top player and Sasha isn't on top yet! He won his match, but Kohlschreiber dropped the ball to Darcis who hasn't done anything noteworthy since eliminating Nadal early at Wimbledon! By now it's routine, so it's not half as Impressive as when he made his name in that one match! This will be very embarrassing for Germany unless something happens to turn it around for them! :nono  :cover

Darcis downs Sasha Zvervev with 3-1 and eliminates Germany.
Darcis was the hero of this rubber upsetting both Kohlschreiber and Zverev.

Come on Baut!!!!!
Weird things are happening this beginning of the year. I'm surprised that the Zverev brothers are out and the Lopez "brothers" lost playing so badly vs the croatias
