Tipsy is out - a non-tank - so the heat is more on Nole.

Who wins?

First day:

Djokovic v Stepanek

Lajovic v Berdych

Not hard to see it being tied after day one. Dusan Lajovic is ranked 117 in the world, which isn't bad but shouldn't be enough to take down Berdy...

Matches between Djokovic and Stepanek are usually very entertaining. At his age and what he's been through in terms of neck injuries and metal plates in said neck, it's amazing how good Stepanek can still play. Certainly well enough to take a set if he's fired up. When's it on? Would love to watch that match actually.

Starts today.

I agree, Stepanek, the old Dark Matter for the WTA Tour - is an entertaining old fogey. But his only shot is if Nole falls asleep, which ain't happening...

Djoker and Nimonjic vs. Berdych and Stepanek doubles will decide who would win this
tie.

Most likely. Too bad about Tipsy.

Djokovic will not play in doubles, Zimjonic and Bozoljac will and by the way, Tipsy is injured.

The first set is kind of fun. Stepanek is such a character, and he really steps up in DC. 5-5 in the first.

OK. They got 1 pt in straight sets. Lajovic is playing. Does anyone know anything
about him. Have not heard of him.

Hope he plays against swiss in the opening tie of 2014 too.

This Lajovic does not seem that bad. He had 24 winners and 5 unforced errors only.
Even though he lost in 3 sets, he seems to have played reasonably well. I did not see
the match, but saw the stats of it.

All I know is that he's the lowest-ranked player to play in a DC final in at least 10 years. Of course, he lost in straights but acquitted himself well-enough, what I watched, and by the scoreline.

Gimelstob insists that it is not yet set who plays doubles tomorrow. Davis Cup website says it will be Bozoljac/Ziminjic v. Hajek/Rosol, but even Ziminjic says he's not sure who he'll play with, and Gimelstob thinks Berdych will play doubles. Dubs are big tomorrow, with all tied at 1-1.

According to streamhunter.eu it is indeed going to be Bozoljac / Zimonjic v Hajek / Rosol (Serbia - Czech Republic)

Turns out Czech Rep. are going to field Berdych/Stepanek, the old tried and true. Djokovic will stay on the bench, after some talk that he might play today.

Yeah, very glad they chose this team instead! Now I'll watch it!

Why oh why, Bozoljac, can't you play like this in singles? Aside from that awesome performance against Fed in Wimbledon 2010 he's done nothing and is back on the challenger circuit. Huge serve, great net skills and pretty damn impressive passing shots. He has tons of potential.

I wouldn't want the job of umpiring a DC match. Anything could be construed as being pro one team, or anti the other. But that's why they only use the most experienced and objective umpires, such as Pascal Maria.

Great umpire alright. The one and only guy with enough balls to dock Novak and Rafa points for taking too long between points
