The Tournament:

The Coupe Banque Nationale was created in 1993 as a result of a Tennis Canada Initiative aimed at offering a high-quality international sporting event. The tournament has since become one of the most prestigious events in Québec and even all of Canada. In fact, it has been honored as the WTA's International Tournament Of The Year a record eight times, including every year from 1995 to 2000. Src: WTA

Past champions include WTA greats Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport and Maria Sharapova. Mirjana Lucic-Baroni's victory in 2014 gave her the greatest gap between WTA titles in history - 16 years and four months.

The Players:

Eugenie Bouchard is the top seed and heads a field containing defending champion Annika Beck.

About Québec City

Québec City sits on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada's mostly French-speaking Québec province. Dating to 1608, it has a fortified colonial core, Vieux-Québec and Place Royale, with stone buildings and narrow streets. This area is the site of the towering Château Frontenac Hotel and imposing Citadelle of Québec. The Petit Champlain district’s cobblestone streets are lined with bistros and boutiques.
