I'm not sure how I feel about the retroactive part but I like this change. The Laver Cup is a fun tournament and should at least be included in win-loss record. I assume it isn't adding ATP points.

There is also a precedent for such retroactive changes. The Grand Slam Cup, which was one of the most competitive and high paying gigs during the 90s, was retroactively added as an ATP event after it was folded into the ATP Finals, along with the Tennis Masters Cup.

I mean you can include it in the future but you should not include it retroactively when the players played it like an exhibition

That's kind of a good point. It also puts more weight on it, historically, when you look back at a h2h. Either they make it a sanctioned tournament, or they don't. But let's not pretend that the last 2 years were more than an exho.

Does this mean Federer gets five or so career wins added. If so this could be a biased attempt by the ATP to help Federer chase down Connors. He’s only about 70 wins off now.

Here is the official announcement which does not give you much detail. Based on other sources, I gather that Laver cup will not be giving any points. However, the Laver cup organizers have access to the entire services of ATP just like any other tournament organizers.

I have not read explicitly about the matches being counted in win-loss record. But, based on the link in the OP, it does appear that they will be counted. But, it is not all that controversial, especially considering Davis Cup (the current one, not sure about the new versions of it) matches were already counted in the H2H and other match stats. But, I don't like the retroactive part though.

Apparently, the main advantage that Laver cup gets by "working with the ATP" is that the Laver cup gets a designated spot in the calendar schedule (and ATP will probably not try to organize another event during that week).

Tignor wrote in "18 stats on Rafa's 18" article that

" He got his 950th career tour-level match win. Nadal’s win over Thiem gave him that milestone. The Spaniard is still in fourth place on the men’s all-time list, after Federer, who has 1,207; Jimmy Connors, who had 1,156; and Ivan Lendl, who recorded 1,069"

So, it means Federer is already ahead of Connors.

But Wikipedia records page for most matches won has Connors listed with 1274 matches. I don't know which one is correct.

Perhaps both are correct and one includes matches won at level ATP 250 such as challengers and futures.

You remember all the outrage back in March where the corrupt Kermode was ousted by the players council. It was the council and Djokovic who were made villains by the British media in support of the britisher. They were asked to give their reasons for ousting despite no requirement to do so, well I have not seen a single one of them report on this and ask the ATP to justify their reasons. This is so blatantly corrupt that I think even the British media are paid not to report on it.

Remember how this forum questioned Djokovic for doing the right thing, well it is all coming out now. I am happy the corrupt have been removed and hope the ATP moves to better times

I don't find anything new since March. Do you have new information?

I'm all for the removal of the whole board. They are corrupt and weak. They clearly have shown on a number of occasions they don't care for the integrity of the game which makes you wonder how many people they've turned a blind eye to.

Not to mention all the match fixing going on, especially on a challenger level which kind of slips under the radar.
