My obsessiveness about making fun and pretty charts is hopefully to your benefit. I thought it might be useful to have a color-coded chart of the entire year's schedule.

KEY:
Shades of blue - Hard courts
Shades of orange - Clay courts
Shades of green - Grass courts
Shades of purple - year-end finals
Gray - Hopman/Davis Cup

The darker the shade, the bigger the tournament. I've also sized each tournament proportionally based upon max points, with the exception of the Next Gen finals, which doesn't give any points but I wanted to include. I was tempted to include the Davis Cup but decided against it; maybe in a later, updated draft.

I'll update this throughout the year, maybe every month or so. The completed tournaments are written in bold and non-italics, with the champion.

EDIT: I added Hopman and Davis Cup in gray.

There should be a visual way to make out as to which ones are concurrent tourneys.

Yeah, I was thinking about that. I could either expend the frames so there are no lines between concurrent tournaments, or do something else. Consider this the Beta version ;).

The ones won by Federer should shine and play Classical Music when the you pass the mouse over it.

Thanks, herios. I knew if I missed something, you'd be there to find it. I thought Rio was cancelled, but it looks like it turned into an ATP 250?

EDIT: Nope, I was wrong. It is still ATP 500. Weird...don't know why I missed it.

I'll update it when the current crop of tournaments are finished, so tomorrow.

I was wondering as to how the tennis schedule would like in utopia. That is in a world unencumbered by traditions, history etc and where the season is summer at any place you want. For starters, all the tournaments in a season will be played on the same surface and with minimum variation in speed of court, bounce and speed of balls. But, the different seasons will be played on surfaces with huge differences between them on speed, bounce etc.

Here it is. The basic structure.

Season Slow Hard Courts:

1. A week of multiple ATP 250s.
2. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s.
3. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s.
4. A masters tourney 1000.
5. A week of couple of 250s.
6. Two weeks of AO.
8. A week of rest/ DC.

Season Red Clay Clay:
9. A week of multiple ATP 250s.
10. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s.
11. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s
12. A masters tourney 1000.
13. A week of couple of 250s.
14. Two weeks of RG.
16. A week of rest/ DC

Season Green Grass:

17. A week of multiple ATP 250s.
18. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s.
19. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s
20. A masters tourney 1000.
21. A week of couple of 250s.
22. Two weeks of Wimbledon.
24. A week of rest/ DC.

Season Fast Hard Courts:

25. A week of multiple ATP 250s.
26. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s.
27. A week of 500 tourney and couple of 250s.
28. A masters tourney 1000,
29. A week of couple of 250s.
30. Two weeks of USO.
32. A week of rest/ DC.

Season Indoor Carpet:

33. A week of multiple ATP 250s.
34. A week of two parallel 500s
35. A masters tourney 1000.
36. Rest
37. A week of WTF.

All players get mandatory rest of 15 weeks at the end of the year. Any one who
plays in IPTL will serve one year in jail and forfeit next five years of ATP Circuit. :devil

Ranking will be based on 16 tournaments: 4 GS, 1 WTF, 5 Masters (all mandatory for
eligible players) and then best six results from the rest of the tourneys.

OK, here's update. This first image uses the above color coding for court types.

The second chart is colored by generation:

purple: 1979-83
blue: 1984-88
light green: 1989-93
dark green: 1994-98

This one is particularly striking, because you can see just what a massive title share Roger has and through him, his generation.
