From a pure slam point of view, Murray has far far better results and I would pick him above the Safin, Hewitt, and Roddick. It is not just the lost finals, it is the burden of Britain, which I rate him better. My fav is though Safin :)

If you take Marat Safin who destroyed a bit jade Pete Sampras or the Safin that beat Fed at the AU 05 semi. I would say that he would beat Murray 7 out of 10 times. I would say that Murray is going to have a better longterm overall career than Safin but the big man doesnt deserve to ever be classified as a weak mug, his preference of the fast lifestyle was his weakness

Murray is obviously able to beat Djokovic and Federer at the slams, so providing he is able to ward off the back injury, Murray has a chance at #1 if his prime can outlast Nadal's prime. Although no sign of that.

Murray is certainly the best player of that mix. From a career greatness perspective you might still be able to argue Hewitt over him but not Safin or Roddick IMO.

Murray already has an overall better career than Safin. But yeah, obviously, at his very best, Safin was something else. Shame we didn't see it that often.
