Was this Rusty's last real hold on the big time? It was a great comeback but maybe also the end of his era as a Tier 1 player on the tour.

Not exactly. He reached the U.S. final in 2004 and Australian in 2005.
You know, as great a champion Federer was/is, he has had some unbelievable defeats throughout his career regarding matches he should have won. That 2003 Davis Cup match was one of them.

As painful as that match was for Roger it seemed to propel him forward in a way. Hewitt didn't beat him again for many years and Fed soon won Wimbledon and then took over the tour in 2004. Hewitt still featured strongly in 2004 and the beginning of 2005.
