This chart shows the distribution of surfaces on the ATP tour in the OE.

On average carpet comprised about 20% average of the tour and many big tournaments like TOUR finals and many masters were conducted on it.I was surprised to find many great 80s players had more carpet titles than Hard court titles.

To dissuade the upcoming generational from being one-dimensional baseliners,I think bringing back carpet courts to encourage S & V will work wonders for players developing all-court games.

I totally agree. I don't understand why the got rid of the surface. Some of the matches I've watched on carpet are some of the greatest

Bad idea says the person whose favorite player has a 2-6 record on carpet and minimal experience because he avoided carpet after after 2004 - even though it didn't go away completely until 2007. Whereas as a Federer fan, I can say, "Meh...why not give it a shot?" because he's got a 50-19 record on carpet...and most of those losses came very early in his career.

Well think players could fell over, and get injured, its not good for the body. That they need to do is make the wtf on clay like the great nadal said, its not fair to have it on one surface.

I've never seen a match played on carpet. Were there different types of carpets, like there are different types of hardcourts?

I don't see it happening. The time may come again where they speed up the courts but they'll probably stick with the current mix.

No, it ain't coming back. Usually, these things are like that. No turning around, once you kill a surface.

I agree. Personally, I don't know how you guys don't find that clip boring. A lot of it isn't even 1-2 tennis...it's one and done. That's why they killed it. Plus, carpet seems so gross to me. Like carpeting your bathroom.

I agree that some of that was boring. However, some of it was exciting. Short points, yes. But still exciting. Nice angles and passing shots. Better than that 86 shot Borg/Vilas rally, in my opinion.

I do recognize that it's a matter of taste, and mine runs to longer points. But apparently I'm not in the minority. That's why the ITF/ATP took out carpet. I agree that some balance should be found, but one and done tennis is not the answer. This is why I don't think carpet will come back. Other indoor surfaces can be adjusted. Carpet is just too fast, and also makes no sense in today's baseline game.

I'd rather have carpet in my bathroom than either clay or grass. Maybe there should be some ATP events on tile and/or linoleum. :)

I love carpet. With that speed, Federer would have excelled on the surface.

Oh, no...I'd totally have grass in my bathroom over carpet. As to tile or linoleum events? I'm pretty sure there are a lot of Fedfans here that would have that. If they would play tennis on ice, they'd be in, as they think it would favor Roger. :yahoo:

If my bathroom floor was grass, unless I changed my "game", in no time it'd look like the grass during the second week of Wimbledon. :)
