No one, at least not yet. I suspect it will be a combination of two things: he starts to slip a bit and the young guys like Kyrgios, Zverev, and Fritz take a step forward. But I think Novak is all but guaranteed the year-end #1 ranking this year and possibly next. I think we'll start seeing cracks next year, and his reign ended in 2018.

Let us hope that Kyrgios can. These two have never met and we don't know how they will match up against each other until we see their collision materialize.

Kyrgios to hold up under the constant pressure put on him for a whole match?? Hope all you want! :)

I think Stan can rattle him, but Stan is so hit or miss that you would have a better shot at winning the lottery than knowing which Stan is going to show up to a match. The issue a lot of players have playing Novak is that constant pressure on serve because that ROS is golden. I can see Novak being potent through 2018.

Kyrgios is very inconsistent from one game or point to another. Brilliant shot making is followed by lazy shots or lack of concentration right away. That is why I am not concerned about him in regards to Novak's hegemony.

As odd as it seems, Murray has shown he can hang with Novak on the big stage--if an agitated, unfocused Novak is on the other end. Roger and Rafa obviously have beaten him more often, but I don't like their chances in a major over five sets. Really only a dip from Djokovic is going to open the door unless Stanislas plays like he has shown he can when he got his two majors--that version of Wawrinka is capable of beating any of the big four. I don't count on him though. Of the new guys, my gut tells me Thiem is likely the only one who stands a chance as of yet, but that is still not something I would put money on.

If Novak is the only one who can stop Novak then under that rule I can say that Nadal has been the only one to stop Nadal, and Muzz to stop Muzz and etc etc .......
Nobody can play his best forever and ever and nobody will

What I mean by my post is that Novak playing well currently beats anyone else. This is his time and if he lives up to his abilities the last two years, he is the overwhelming favorite. There is no guarantee, but it is pretty close if he plays well. If he throws in a bad performance against a top guy he can and will lose, but they will have to be "on" for that to happen in my view. Novak playing well wins.

I couldn't agree more; saying IMO he hasn't played that well for months! The thing is, the rest of the tour stinks allowing him to pretty much run rough-shot over them; look at 100 UFE errors in a match in Australia against Simon and he still won! :cover :nono  :laydownlaughing

Here is the problem, when you allow a player like Novak to get away with his B Game to beat you while you are throwing the kitchen sink at him then you create a monster. Novak has pretty much been on his B Game for most of the year with flashes of the A Game. Truth be told Nadal and Nishikori threw everything they had at him pretty much and came up short and Novak wasn't even that impressive minus a few moments here and there. Imagine if he actually had been impressive for longer periods of those matches. It is like the WTA with Serena, she gives them many gifts and for the most part they haven't been able to capitalize until very recently. Novak so far has been very stingy with his gift giving truly doing him in during matches.

Also, let's be real Murray is a decent player, but I expect if Nadal or Djokovic had that draw in Rome for them to hold the title. Hell, if Roger had Murray's draw in Rome I would expect him to make the final.
