Good read about Federer in his younger days, along with Lleyton Hewitt and Fernando Gonzalez.

Both guys were setting new records for racquet bouncing, arguing, smashing balls and just straight out whingeing. Roger would even swear in English and I could assume only that he wanted Peter to have no misunderstandings about his frustrations. - See more at: http://www.foxsports.com.au/tennis/young-federer-had-nothing/story-e6frf4mu-1111112831485#sthash.mpuc4egK.dpuf

This is the tricky thing about evaluating young players. I remember reading in Agassi's book that Pete was a bit awkward with a broken backhand when they knew each other as youngsters. We know how that turned out. Meanwhile guys like Gasquet and Dimitrov are pegged as sure things and then can't measure up.

Yeah, pretty much this. There are some youngsters that stand out in ways that makes it safer to make these predictions though (Nadal, Djokovic, Murray are good examples, as each had strengths beyond their age).

And this Cahill article was written before he returned to all four slam finals and won three of them for the second year in a row! I wonder what he though heading into the 2008 AO? Then again, what does he think now almost 6 years later?
