I voted for Gasquet winning it. He's been on-form of late.

I picked Gasquet to win the whole thing. I never even heard of Soreno.

Neither did I, although by now I have heard of most of the players ranked in the 100-200 range. Soreno completely escaped my radar.

He's #159, but so unknown the ATP doesn't even have a height listed for him. And he's from Torino...I lived there for a while. I like him already. (Even if he did mess up my draw.) :D

I like his name too. My phone initially auto corrected it to Sorento :)

Jeez, his name is Sonego, I misspelled him.

If you don't mind me butting in, I think the reason why you like Sorrento better is because it probably reminds you of a past holiday you had & loved. I don't know but know that sometimes when people have preferences towards a word it's caused by good memories though sometimes it's the word itself. I just put 2 & 2 together & surmised that because it's a popular holiday destination which some people love that that was the reason for your preference. (I don't personally know what it's like as I've never been).
I think it's "Sonego," which is unusual. I like Sorrento better. ;)

It's sort of that...Sorrento is a beautiful town on the Amalfi coast. It also just sounds better in Italian. It trills, while "Sonego" plods, a bit. Nothing against the man or his ancestors, mind you. :)

I looked it up. It is pretty uncommon, and is heavily concentrated in the Veneto, which is the region that includes Venice. That makes sense...they have some pretty unique surnames. It's also likely very old.

OK...sorry to diverge. He's pretty young, this Lorenzo Sonego. Turning 23 in a few weeks. Maybe we'll hear more out of him.

I don't know. The only Italian I know is "Buongiorno! Un caffe latte y una pizza margherita per favore, grazie. Ciao!" I know some words just sound better than others though. :0)
