The Tournament:

The WTA returned to Brazil for the first time in over a decade with the inaugural Brasil Tennis Cup in Florianopolis in 2013. Florianopolis is the hometown of ATP legend Gustavo Kuerten. It is the capital city and second largest city of the Santa Catarina state in southern Brazil.

Known for having a very high quality of life, Florianopolis' economy is heavily based on information technology, tourism and services. It is also a surfing mecca, as the island is considered to have the best and most consistent waves in the country.

The Players:

Jelena Jankovic heads up a relatively lightweight field in what has become a pre-Olympic tune-up for the 2016 season.

About City

Florianópolis, the capital of southern Brazil’s Santa Catarina state, is made up mostly of 54km-long Santa Catarina Island. It's famous for its beaches, including popular resort areas such as Praia dos Ingleses at the island's northern tip. Its Lagoa da Conceição, a saltwater lagoon, is popular for windsurfing and boating. The Pedro Ivo Campus Bridge connects the island to a mainland commercial district.
