Haase and L. Mayer eliminated in R1 by Pella and Souza respectively

Glad that World's Best Indoor Clay Tournament got its own thread.

With Nadal taking rest, Ferrer playing in Mexico, this tournament is Almagro's to lose.

If Almagro does not take it, I think Montanes will take it as he is another dirt baller
in the lower rungs.

But, I think Almagro will do it.

Almagro got out already. I did not watch the match.
Looks like he is in terrible form. He exited from 3 different
tournaments in a hurry.

Here he was beaten by Delbonis, the former Federer slayer.

Almagro is going through a real bad patch. And with two big HC tourneys coming up...
He has an uphill battle.

We should not overlook that he withdrew from AO with an "on-going shoulder" injury.
Perhaps he is not well recovered or might be something which prevents him to play full blast. Who knows?
The injuries bug is wide spread early this season.

It could be a bum shoulder, although he did make the semis in Argentina.

He has a history of going through losing streaks. To his credit, he usually slogs through them.

Oddly, Haas has a great opportunity here.

I think Albert Montanes will take this one. Among the players left, he has
more dirt on him. ;)

Thanks herios, I almost forgot about that. So, there is some explanation at least.
That is good.

Would've thought he always had. He's had better results than any of them at RG and and recently as 2009 too when he wasn't young either.

Actually, the best record on clay of the remaining players here belongs to Juan Monaco, by a wide margin. He has 6 titles on clay vs. 2 for Tommy Haas.
The only issue is Juan Monaco is in a poor form this year with a 1-4 record thus far.

Yeah Monaco's form has been horrendous well over a year or more now. Haas is the best on clay from the group of players in this draw in present form.

Lorenzi, who had never even made a semi before, gets into the final because Haas retired.

Yes, shoulder injury. You were right on, that playing as much as he is, he will end up injured.
I am sure he got a good pay to show up here, because the filed was really lacking star power, but was it really worth it?

Anyways, Lorenzi makes his first final yet at the tender age of...32! He deserves it as he defeated on his way Monaco, who was seeded 3rd
