Yeah I know - just a small tournament - but I cover it for one reason  One of 18 WTA tournaments this year in the Australia/Asia swing and last in spring.

bg_header.png

Tournament Info:, Tier: International, Prize Money: $250,000, Surface: Hard
Director: Keld Kristiansen
Won by Alisa Kleybanova at its inaugural staging in 2010, Kuala Lumpur has since been captured by Jelena Dokic, Hsieh Su-Wei, the second Taiwanese to secure a WTA title, Karolina Pliskova and Donna Vekic, who at 17 during the 2014 staging became the WTA's youngest titlist in almost seven years. Here is the area where the tournament takes place - a park in centre of town along with a golf course - maybe something for Caroline ;)

It's a very humid affair 84% humidity and 31 Centigrades, and this looks like Caroline has been playing for 3 hours - not easy sweating in such a climate:

Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark is through to the quarterfinals of the BMW Malaysian Open 2015 after she won her last 16 match against China’s World No 122 Zhu Lin in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

After rainfall earlier in the evening, all eyes were on Centre Court as Zhu surprised Wozniacki in the first set by going head to head with the former World No 1. With the score tied at 4-4, Wozniacki held serve and a couple of unforced errors by Zhu allowed Wozniacki to win the first set.

In the second set, Zhu again worked tirelessly to take the fight to Wozniacki as she went for all the shots, but the Dane flexed her superiority to overpower Zhu and take the second set 6-1 to win the match and book her place in the quarterfinals.

“That was my first time playing Zhu and she played a flat game, she was aggressive throughout the match and credit to her for playing a good match, especially in the first set. For tomorrow’s quarterfinal match I will be out there fighting to win and do my best,” said Wozniacki.

Nice stats - long time since Caroliine made 7 aces in one set.

I have really noticed a marked improvement in Caroline's serve in the last year. She never topped 160km's now that is certainly in her range. Gives her another added dimension to her already solid well rounded game.

Was hoping for a Jarmila-Caroline final but that was not to be. Caroline will certainly be the fresher of the two with such an easy semi-final win.

Congrats to Caroline. She didn't always play her best tennis but she came through. Hopefully she can take the confidence from winning this title in 3 sets to Indian Wells and go far in that tournament. I was getting a little worried about her this year.

Congrats to Woz. The match stats look great. Hoping she gets a good draw at IW to make up for the early meetings with Vika.

A nice stat for Caroline she has won at least one WTA title every year since 2008!
