Let me introduce "The Continental Grip" which is a tennis blog that I write. I began about 6 months back. This is my shot at tennis-blogging. I wanted to share my thoughts and ideas about tennis in my blog. What I generally write there or intend to write there are articles on trends in professional tennis, general commentary on professional tennis and predictions of outcomes on the tour. I wanted to share my thoughts and ideas about tennis in my blog. And I intend to share my blog here (give you the links) as I believe this forum has knowledge tennis fans and having you all as readers for my blog will be an honour to me and also a means to continually improve as a blogger.

RE: Introducing "The Continental Grip" (BLOG)

Thanks Shivahish, I love to read blogs, and you chose good smart topics, especially why nobody has been able to defend the USO since 2008. Maybe the game is in permanent semi-transition, moving out of Fedal, through a rockier period since, I don't know, but I think you're also onto something with the technical analysis, which suggests the post-Federer generation are being taught a new way of playing, or perhaps, less an old way. I look forward to reading more!

EDIT: Might I suggest you create a signature to your profile in the control panel that contains a link to your blog? You'll generate traffic that way, regardless if you're posting on other topics, because we'll see it at the bottom of your post...

RE: Introducing "The Continental Grip" (BLOG)

I found the part about grips the players use informative. With reference to Rafa, Novak and Andy, you wrote:

None of these forehand grips is best suited for a very aggressive game. Therefore, none was ever a specialist of the DecoTurf surface although they had their peak during the period 2008-2015.

During the last 10-15 years, we saw the homogenization of tennis courts was done causing very few fast courts to remain on tour. Naturally, players tend to practice the grips and styles that help master the slower set of courts using a more conservative game. This renders them vulnerable at the US Open which uses a court that is relatively faster than those used at the other three grand slams and which favours an aggressive style of playing.

I wonder what others think...

RE: Introducing "The Continental Grip" (BLOG)

I like this blog, shivashish! the new article is really comprehensive, but not dull. I like you analysis. Maybe you're a bit hard on Rafa - i mean, he finished top 9 this year, having lost in the first round in oz, then had to withdraw from Paris, skipped Wimbo, and declared his season done with a lot of ranking points still in the pot to be won. So even a repeat of this blighted season gets him a top 10 spot, but I expect more from him, health permitting, of course.

I think you're optimistic about Novak too. An even slightly tougher opposition should challenge Novak significantly. A lot of his fans prolly bought the kool-aid that says he's so much better than everyone, but really, they're so much worse. For now, and that should change. And you neglected the world number 1, who I expect more from next season.

Good run through with the youngsters, I learned a lot there, thanks! :)

I wrote on Novak and Murray under the same heading and i have predicted that Murray wins 1 slam next year. These were only my views.

A good article, and a reasonable assessment of Rafa's place right now. He's still a work in progress, and as he said, he feels he needs a bit of luck. Sometimes exos can work in a players favour, though, and his level of play there was high, and he beat good players, so he can take some strength from that.

Nice read, too!
