Nalbandian's was undoubtedly the best I have seen. Some people say Hewitt too but he wasn't at Nalbandian's level.

No one really uses the lob anymore. They mostly only go for passing shots.

Murray easily has the best backhand lob in the game. Up there with Hewitt among the best I'd ever seen. Nalbandian's backhand lob was great when he had time, but not necessarily from defensive positions.

If we're talking about defensive lobs (ie not winners, but lobs just to get back in rallies), then it's Djokovic and Murray. Nadal and Federer used to be up there too.

The big four all have pretty effortless lobs, particularly Murray/Fed/Nadal. The amount of crazy defensive lobs that Fedal has hit over the years is just ridiculous.

For how often the rest of the tour misses that shot, its pretty telling.

And yea, historically, Chang, Hewitt, Rios (notice a pattern of small players), Nalbandian etc
