Quite surprised to hear this coming from Gabby Logan.

I've seen that parsed as an example of her humour, but yeah, I'm surprised too. Maybe Gabby is feeling she needs to add an edge to things, but this is wrong - and stupid...

Good grief what did she expect? I'm sure Andy wanted the Gold in Doubles also and not just for himself, but for Laura as well!

Maybe she propositioned him and he turned her down. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.:cool:

She was obviously making a joke. It was a speech to a bunch of students. Anyway, to a tennis player the silver medal is like getting that little cookie tray. Why should he have been happy?

Ms Logan has been back-peddling quite a bit.

"I'm a huge fan of AM. If you're interested in the context of the quotes doing the rounds then have a look at this."
http://www.gabbylogan.com/videos/2014/03/05/leeds-trinity-keynote-speech-journalism-week/6167

"The speech was to journalism students. It was about context and how the success of an interview depends on the timing."

"I wanted him to cheer up for the intervew, selfish of me. He owes me nothing. I love his determination."

"It's with great regret that my quotes were used out of context."

"I have nothing but the utmost respect for AM. I am and always will be a huge fan."
----------------

I found the interview that she did with Andy during the Olympics. He did seem disappointed but he was still very polite and chatty. I think we'd all agree that interviewing any athlete after a disappointment is never great TV. He was a tiebreak away from winning another gold medal. Of course he was disappointed.

Talk about newspapers making something out of nothing.

A recent FB debate had one of my friends complaining that Silver and Bronze medalists looked too happy in Sochi. And most of them only get the world's stage every 4 years! TBH, I was on the side that they had a right to be thrilled, but Murray and Robson were close, and he might have felt he let her down, as well as missing a gold for Britain. Just saying that there's an argument for why should he be happy with 2nd? We want to see competitiveness...well, there it is.

Agreed…I think the headline of the article that BB posted in the OP was overly-sensational. No fault to britbox, as it was picked out by a few news sources as the headline, when the intention seemed clearly to rib. The fault lies in the newspapers that pulled it out of context and intent.

Yeah, the way they interview players right after a tough loss is awful to be honest. Never liked it and never will. They can't really be expected to be happy about losing, especially if it was a close loss.

Exactly. And, remembering that Andy won over so many when he showed how much he cared about losing the Wimbledon final in 2012, WHY should we ask him to be all grins losing the doubles final in the Olympics? That just doesn't make sense. Either he cares about winning something important, or he doesn't. He can't be asked to parse his own emotions appropriately for the gratification of the media.
