I'd like to see Ferrer win, for the sake of pride, but that would put Wawrinka and Berdych in a tie. (Since Berdych is going to lose tomorrow.)

I'm picking Berdy to win against Rafa. Sliced finger may make it difficult to hit without some discomfort.

Stan, even in his loss, looks a lot fresher than Ferrer. Picking Stan to win in 2

Doubt it tbh. Seems just like a typical Matt Cronin shock news headline. Probably hurt about as much as breaking a finger nail.

Chasing after this tempest in a teapot, I've looked into even the Spanish press. Seems that the cut was on the index finger. Made him late for practice because he saw his famous doctor. (Late? What's new?) I'm not really feeling this is a game-changer.

so captain vamos v burdych..will rafa/wafa want to be 1st on group to avoid djokovic in the sf. or will he not be bothered and maybe let his pet burd win.

Rafa doesn't avoid anyone, and he certainly can't avoid beating Berdy. It should be done in straights. The interesting thing today is how Wawrinka will react to the chance to progress, and how Ferrer will play, with only pride at stake. I imagine he'll be quite fierce, given that he hits the beach tomorrow...

I see the schedule for Day 6 is out - and Federer plays del Potro in the afternoon match. Hmm. This might mean that the winner of that plays Ralph in the afternoon match on Sunday, if Nadal wins Group A.

And so I'll see it.

Which is nice.

Okay, back on topic. Day 5. Em, if Rafa wins this group I might get to watch his semi-final!

So if Rafa tanks the match, Wawrinka gets screwed.

Ferrer looks like a schoolboy with his bag on his back. Don't forget to eat your greens!

Because he is already qualified. Preserve energy and his finger is cut and all.

He'd preserve more energy if he cut down on his tics. Tanking, however, is different. Tanking is throwing a match. A guy can conserve energy but still play to win a match.

Don't know the extent of the finger. I suppose it depends on whether he cuts bread as fiercely as he hits forehands... :p
