Interesting stat regarding the Halep v Wickmayer match

Wickmayer leads their h2h 3-0 though the last time they met was in 2012 in Hobart q/finals.Halep has improved since then.

None of the bottom half top seeds should have a problem. Although Wickmayer is playing like herself of a few years ago...

Interesting to see Cibulkova still in. It seems she's taking Li Na's spot as the player who always shines in Australia and not much anywhere else. Remember all those years Li Na would do well in Oz and falter the rest of the yeaR?

Genie takes the first set. She's playing absolutely beautifully. Im so surprised by her at this Australian Open. I really expected a letdown for her after how she ended last year and dropping her coach. This girl may be for real. If she's playing this well she may be able to beat Sharapova in the QFs.

And now she's gotten tight and is struggling against Begu. Had the match rolling and inexplicably forgets she's a professional tennis player and drops the set 5-7. :cover

She could go very far. My major criticism with her is that she plays very well at the slams and poorly at other events. She can also go off the rails very easily. Tonight she dug deep and put that horrible second set behind her and won her match. Let's see what she does in the next round.

Genie has a calm demeanor, though she did talk to herself a bit in that second set, and added after the match that she said to herself in the bathroom break get it together and she did. Begu gave her a good test, and that will help her in the next round, and if she meets Maria, that hopefully could be a compelling match to watch.
