Hopefully, Ivanovic vs Williams will be good. I am kind of hoping with Ana's recent turn of good play that it proves a good match.

Genie and Casey go at it in Prime-time.
Flavia and Angie get their chance early.

here is the list of singles matches:

Casey Dellacqua (AUS) vs. Eugenie Bouchard (CAN) [30]
Na Li (CHN) [4] vs. Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) [22]
Angelique Kerber (GER) [9] vs. Flavia Pennetta (ITA) [28]

My predictions below based on instinct . I don't believe in logic in sports, its the instinct which knows better..

1) Ana can give some bother to the best player of all times. When Ana clicks, "you never know"... my instinct smells something about this match, maybe a Serena mental fatigue? hard to tell. Serena is my best of all times anyway. Serena wins a tougher match than what was expected.
2) Genie wants to see her bunch of "crazy" Canadians ;) again and will win this.
3) Na Li. I cant see her lose this.
4) Flavia lights up in the big stage while Kerber tends to fade under pressure. My logic says Kerber but my instinct says Flavia, so I predict a Flavia win!

Will be interesting to see how many I got right

Flavia having a strong start v. Kerber. Forza, Flavia! (You may have called it, Si si Simona.)

Fantastic first set Pennetta! Flavia is a wily veteran, and I have no feel for Kerber, tbh. Any insight, Kskate?

Kerbie's serve has always been suspect. Flavia has come out the gates ready to play while Angie still looks asleep. I expect Angie to play better in the 2nd set, but Flavia is a confidence player and she has to be on real high right now. I don't know that Kerbie can combat that confidence for another 2 sets to win this.

Kerber making a push in the second set, ahead 5-4, she is serving to even things up.

Kerbie takes the 2nd 6-4. We're heading to a decider. Flavia has lost her way a bit, we'll see if she can regain her confidence.

Behind 1-2 in the 3rd set, Flavia takes charge, she breaks Angie at love then holds her serve at 15, wins two games in a row along with the momentum.

lets see if she can hold it.

In bed with the flu makes for easy tennis-watching :(

I believe I misspoke a couple days ago in saying I didn't like Pennetta...I was confusing her with Vinci. I actually like Pennetta and her fight to come back from injury.

She only needs one. Kerbie dumps a FH in the net and Flavia moves on to the QF 6-1 4-6 7-5. Well done!

Angie makes another error for a total of 35 UFE, Flavia does 37 UFE of her own but she also scores 43 winners. Flavia Penneta is the first to qualify for quarter finals.

Li is having Makarova, can Makarova bring down another giant in Melbourne?
