Two people I'm really curious about so far. Bouchard and Radwanska. Radwanksa I think we're all waiting to see if she has made improvements under Martina yet. Its difficult to say. She's won her early matches so convincingly but we've seen before that can mean absolutely nothing until they face a tough opponent. Bouchard I think is flying under the radar which is good for her at this point. Im curious to see how she plays Garcia, as she's a touch more difficult.
The match I am interested in is Pliskova v Makarova
Pliskova really took her game to Kvitova in the final at Apia International,Sydney.Pliskova has been playing good solid tennis so far in Australia, she defeated Azarenka at the Brisbane International.
I know it is early days,I usually wait till the business end of a Grand Slam, the second week, the player that has impressed me so far has been Simona Halep, she put on a Master Class performance against Aussie Jarmila. Her first serve has improved to me,it seems to have more power than in 2014,her technique is good and fluid,my only concern at this stage is her 2nd serve, which to me is attackable.Simona uses all the court, with great angles, she has great all court awareness and anticipation.Another player that has impressed me so far has been Venus Williams, she has continued her good form from Auckland where she won the title.
18 out of 32 seeds are left after 2 rounds, some seeds play each other in the 3rd round so the number will go down from here.
I don't see Zarina giving Masha any trouble but I can see Garcia giving Genie some.
I wouldn't be surprised if Yanina knocked Sara out.
Makarova took it, it was a tight straight victory. She will get Goerges next, they have never faced each other!
Peng advanced too, the last Chinese is still here.
Eugenie never gave in her 1st set battle with Caroline Garcia, winning 7-5, and then punished her in the second set 6-0. Solid performance by her, very focused and undaunted when Garcia had her in a bit of trouble in the 1st set.
