One hour to the start of day two - and already at 9.50 local time - 28 centigrades. They have made a forecast of up to 40 during the run of the day. Hope we won't have any collapses among the players. Exciting matches starting the day in one hour:

01:00 Suarez Navarro - King (Court 3) Navarro in 3
01:00 Cornet - Hercog (Court 6) Cornet in 2
01:00 Halep - Piter (Margaret Court Arena) Piter plays well so beware Halep. Piter in 3
01:00 Azarenka - Larsson (Rod Laver Arena) Vika in 2
01:00 Wozniacki - Dominguez Lino (Hisense Arena) Caro in 2

Well anyway it'll be interesting to see where people are:cool:

I expect the WTA to bring in their Extreme Heat Policy today
Seeing the temp in Melbourne will be around 107....EEK

Horrible conditions for sure but they didn't exercise anything in Brisbane with similar and at times higher temps than that, which is nuts.

Piter is about to sample the local bread.

13 UFEs and 0 winners for Piter. Ugly stats.

No silly OTT celebrations from Halep despite the scoreline. Nice to see. Very well played. Not highly exciting for the fans though.

5 winners and 25 UFEs for Piter is horrendous.

Wozniaki wins handily, and Azarenka v. Larsson is going into a TB. Has been a break-fest.

Yeah, just watching it till Fed's match starts. Last service game by Larsson was horrendous.

Vika must have had first round jitters, she was pushed to the limit in that first set today.

Easiest match goes to Alize Cornet, her opponent retired after a game.
Carla and McHale advanced too.

Caroline's score was very promising.

Retiring after a game may make it an easy advancement but complete lack of match play when the other players have played a match already will do more harm than good next round. Sure, she (Cornet) won't have had exposure to the heat and will be rested, but also not getting any match play.

aza had a 72min first set eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek.

She was miserable at holding serve. She's going to have to step it up after this one. She was lucky to get through in 2.

JJ is relentless out there, she won 1-2 in 1 hour 15 minutes.

Aggie shakes off the last tourny's first round loss with handing a bagel to her opponent, but she is behind in the second set.
