I am a long term suffering Sveta fan:) it will be a interesting first round match between Sveta and Garcia.Andy Murray has been impressed with what he has seen in Garcia,he has already touted her as a future No 1 player.

I too am a long suffering Sveta fan and would like her to go far in this tournament. I never really knew what the deal was with her. She has a strong, powerful and smart game and could hit with the best of anyone on a good day. She has days when she is mentally strong and others when she folds like a cheap suit. I know she has had injuries, but that alone does not explain why she has not accomplished more as a tennis player.

As for Garcia, imo the verdict is still out. The good news is that she is still very young and her game can only improve.

^ Sveta is one of the most naturally gifted athletes that has ever played on the WTA tour, maybe you and I should form our own club? Agree Sveta should have won more GS titles in her career,to me in ways she hasnt lived up to her full potential. When her game is 'on' also mental, she is a delight to watch.

She and Marat are quite a pair of great Russian talent that never accomplished as much as they ought to have, for various reasons.

It's 5 am in Melbourne, 6 more hours to go for main draw to begin.

Simona versus Karin should be fun to start with, Knapp is not going to go away easily.
There is just too many interesting early matches to mention, GRAND SLAM TIME FOLKS!!

I think Errani will struggle with or even lose her first round match...she doesn't do well in 1st rounds

I think what's most interesting about this Australian Open is that it starts getting real from Day One . normally when I'm doing my 1st round picks, I don't recognize 3/4 of the names and I can easily pick winners...not this year. A lot of people have come up well in 2014 to make no-brainers really competitive. If Caro gets out of her 1st rounder with Taylor Townsend, she has to think about either Vika or Sloane....crazy.
I really love the competitiveness of the draw this year.

Goerges is so frustrating. I didn't pick her in my brackets for this because she hasn't looked great...but of course she comes out hot today:nono
