Tournament:

The ATP Auckland Open, commonly known by its sponsored name ASB Classic, is played annually on outdoor hardcourt at the ASB Tennis Centre, in Parnell.

The tournament is the biggest men’s professional sporting event in New Zealand and has been held in Auckland since 1956. Played in the week prior to the Australian Open, the ATP World Tour 250 event is a crucial step in preparation for the year's first Grand Slam tournament.

Auckland is New Zealand's largest city with a population of nearly 1.5 million. Auckland boasts a cosmopolitan blend of European, Maori, Asian and Polynesian cultures, as well as a natural environment that encourages visitors to embrace the Great Outdoors.

The city is based around 2 large harbours with the centrepiece being the Sky Tower which has views of the vibrant Viaduct Harbour district lined with bars and cafes. Auckland Domain, the city's oldest park, is based around an extinct volcano and home to the formal Wintergardens. Near Downtown, Mission Bay Beach has a seaside promenade.

It's rugged coastline and terrain was formed from volcanic ridges of lava flows. Known as the "City of Sails" - Auckland has more boats per capita than any other city in the world. Rangitoto Island sits majestically off the coast.

Auckland is regularly listed among the top 10 of the World's most liveable cities.

Fun Facts About Auckland

There are over 50 volcanoes in the city of Auckland

The Maori name for Auckland is Tamaki Makaurau

Sir Edmund Hillary (the first to summit Everest with Sherpa Tenzing) is from Auckland

Auckland was the second city to become the capital of New Zealand before Wellington took the title, which it still has today. Auckland lost its role as the capital city because government officials travelling from the south found the journey too arduous, with a single trip taking up to two months.

Auckland has the largest Polynesian population in the whole world

It Thurs. "down under" and there's been no commentary since Sat.? Wow! I'm catching replay of Shapovalov & Pospisil; is there something in the water? Add FAA and it's a party with such hotties! Milos must have been dropped from a meandering stork inside the country! He does nothing for me!

Humbert takes the first in the TB, even though he'd been way ahead early. Fun match. Humbert is very good. Paire flashy but messy.

Why don't you like him? The upturned collar? The hipster beard? Anyway, Humbert is ahead 3-0 in the 3rd. I do like his game...and he's a lefty. (And to be clear, I find Paire frustrating, at best.)

The collar and the beard don't help, but I really dislike his attitude. That the guy is a very good player, that part I got. I think you find him frustrating for the same reason I don't like watching him: if he cared about playing as much as he cares for showing how much he doesn't care...

I get it. He comes off as an arrogant prick. And sometimes he wakes up when it matters, sometimes not. Like now...Humbert was serving for it, but Paire is still in. I'm hoping that Humbert wins it.

TB it is. Humbert has a calm head for a young kid. We'll see how he holds up under pressure. This would be his first title.

I only saw the last half of the third set, but it was exciting. I don’t know about the rest of the match, of course, but based on what I did see, Humbert was composed and calm for someone on his way to his first title.
