Tournament Info
Tier: Premier, Prize Money: $776,900, Surface: Hard, Director: Alistair Macdonald
The Apia International Sydney is one of the oldest tournaments in the world, dating back to 1885.

The Sydney Cricket Ground was the first venue for what was then called the New South Wales Open, followed by Double Bay and then White City, which hosted the event for 76 years through 1999. In 2000, the event moved to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, which also hosted the Olympic tennis event that year, and where the combined ATP/WTA event continues to be held the week before the Australian Open.

In 2012, Victoria Azarenka became the first player in eight years to win Sydney and then go on to victory in Melbourne. At the 2013 staging, Agnieszka Radwanska recorded the first double bagel in a WTA final in over six years. Other champions include Jennifer Capriati, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport, Chris Evert, Justine Henin, Martina Hingis, Amélie Mauresmo, Gabriela Sabatini, Arantxa Sánchez-Vicario, Monica Seles and Petra Kvitova. Evonne Goolagong and Martina Navratilova share the Open Era tournament record with four titles each.

The state capital of New South Wales, the most populous city in Australia and the country's economic center, Sydney is situated on Australia's southeast coast off the Tasman Sea.

Why are Caro, Aga, Pliskova and Kerbie playing in this tournament? That's 2 weeks in a row right before a slam.

Not quite sure what you mean if it's the looks -yeah. Another thing why is the WTA not having a rule like this:

If a player withdraws from a tournament injured then she can't take part in the tournament the following week if the player has planned to play there - that will stop ruining the tournaments me thinks:cool:

If you dare ;= - the reason for Bencic withdrawal - that's a proper excuse me thinks

six-pack refers to nice flat abdomen. I thought it is universal lingo, may be just American parlance.

I thinkt it's because of their style of game. They have to keep going and have the feeling for the courts/lines. Caroline/Aga have always played a lot of games to keep them warm. They don't play with power like Serena who has to recover her strength.

Does any of you know if there's others than Vika, Kvitova and Keys in the top 20 who's not playing AO?

- Poor Stosur. She just never does well in her home country.
- Seems as if Siegemund has cooled off after making a big splash during last years clay court season.
- Puig hasn't done anything since the gold medal.
- Donna Vekic looks content to be a WAG. Cannot find herself out of the first round of any tournament.

Kasatkina is very good. Kerbie better bring her game.
I think Daria could take Konta
Domi and Genie always play down under. Should be a cracker.

Woz has had an excellent run of wins in the last few months. Let's see if she takes the title here and gains momentum going into AO.

Well either you don't like Caroline - or didn't see the match. You haven't a comment about all the "favorites" who has left the building or claimed to be "SICK" At least Caroline made a match which she was close to winning but playing in 38-40 centigrades for 3 hours and 20 minutes that's brutal. How about making a real comment instead of a negative hick up - well sorry if it's too much but I'm a little p'''ed about comments like that.
