I recently found about the Uber application. Uber basically orders a taxi for you and you can automatically pay by debit card with a tip and small fee for Uber included. This was helpful in New York and Chicago. I heard it is also international, not sure if it is just in big cities or everywhere.
As for games I'm pretty simple: garbage tennis game and an Iphone chess application that is surprisingly strong. The Droid chess programs were awful.
I've got the original Grand Theft Auto on Android which is a surprisingly good port, also Run of the Mill stuff like Angry Birds etc...but don't really use a phone for games much. Use Kindle app a lot for reading.

I like to read short biographies on the Kindle app on the Iphone too (and I have a Kindle fire at home).
It also helps that my brother is a partner in a big online publishing company so I get a lot of books for free.
Kindle is superb. I never thought I'd like reading books like that, but it's really handy if you're out and about and waiting around for something or other. Like having a small library in your pocket. I read on Kindle more than traditional books these days.
The reading is spectacular on the Kindle fire and still very good on a smartphone. Smartphones are awesome for many reasons but it is especially good for keeping "entertained" while waiting for things (oil change, plane flight, etc.) I am not much of a reader of long books so the quick reads are good for me. Though I suspect that one day I will decide to "crack open" the Game of Thrones books.
