Agnieszka Radwanska won her first WTA Finals title with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Petra Kvitova in an entertaining battle that saw various changes of momentum throughout the match.
The 6th ranked Pole looked in full control after taking the first set 6-2 in 33 minutes with a lacklustre Kvitova broken in the first game and unable to recover.
Radwanska began the second set in similar fashion, breaking Kvitova in the opening game and then consolidating the break to take an early 2-0 lead.
This seemed to be spark needed to light a torch under the two time major winner and she began finding her range to claw back into the match. She held serve, broke Radwanska and held again to level things at 3-3 behind some power tennis.
With the set delicately balanced, Kvitova forced a second consecutive break to take charge of proceedings, close out the set and set up a decider.
The final set was hotly contested and the Radwansksa finally got the decisive break at 3-3, held and then broke Kvitova again to seal the victory and her first WTA Finals Championship.
Radwanska advanced from the group stages despite losing 2 of her 3 matches and becomes the first person to win the title having managed a negative balance in the round robin phase.
