The Players:

Karolina Pliskova and British native Johanna Konta head up the seeds who also include the returning Caroline Wozniacki.

About Nottingham

Nottingham is a city in Nottinghamshire, England, 30 miles south of Sheffield and 30 miles north of Leicester. Nottingham has links to the legend of Robin Hood and to the lace-making. Nottingham had an estimated population of 310,000 with the wider urban area, which includes many of the city's suburbs, having a population of 729,977. Its urban area is the largest in the East Midlands and the second largest in the Midlands.

In Anglo-Saxon times the area was part of the Kingdom of Mercia, and was known in the Brythonic language as Tigguo Cobauc, meaning Place of Caves (known also as "City of Caves").

Bad day for British players Heather Watson, Naomi Broady and Laura Robson. All dumped out of the tournament in Round 1.

Watson headed the list of British casualties in the first round of the Nottingham Open

Good to see Ash Barty (Q) who has returned to tennis, having a good tournament on the grass so far,I do not think she will defeat Pliskova the top seed,I also hope she can gain a w/card into Wimbledon.

Do Australia have a reciprocal Wildcard exchange for the womens singles with Great Britain?

No,to my knowledge Wimbledon in the past have handed out w/cards to players that have done well at the tournament.Australia has a reciprocal exchange at Roland Garos and USA Grand Slams.

not in this nottingham ..but i just saw COCO VANDEWEGHE beat Radwanska ..after a little nice run to winning last week's title --

and i like the way COCO plays her power game -- and also her attitude. very easy demeanor and no perceivable ''airs" about her, I think i like her.
