The Tournament:

The Abierto Mexicano Telcel, one of 13 ATP World Tour 500 series tournaments, switched to blue hard courts in 2014 after 20 years on clay. The event, held at the Acapulco Princess Mundo Imperial, is a favorite destination among players. In 2007, Acapulco won the ATP World Tour award for best tournament of the year in its category.

About Acapulco

The oldest and best known of Mexico's beach resorts, and located on its west coast, the city is set on a large bay, backed by high-rises and the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains. Acapulco once had a cache as a playground of the rich and famous, most notably in the 1950s-60s, hosting Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Frank Sinatra, and Brigitte Bardot, among others. It is beautifully situated, and still famous for its nightlife.

Acapulco is relatively close to Mexico City, a mere three-and-a-half hours drive. It is situated in a natural bay and very popular for watersports and aquatic activities.

Tomorrow Rafa will play his first match after one month, hope he won't be too rusty. Anyway it will be a good preparation for IW :good:

Who decided that the mustache was back, Jordan Thompson (and Pablo Cuevas?) Rather better than the lumberjack beard (Paire,) but only by a whisker. Oh...sorry.

Good start from Rafa. He'll get Kyrgios in the next round, who mostly seemed like he meant business today v. Seppi.

Ferrer outlasted Sandgren in the first set TB. As I said before, he's not going to retire without a fight, and he's had great success in Acapulco, albeit when the tournament was on clay. Also the ever-young Feli Lopez is into a 3rd v. Lajovic. Two old Spanish lions putting on a good show.

Wawrinka just beat S. Johnson in 2, but it was a tight match, and Stan still isn't consistently in world-beater mode.

The obesity epidemic in Mexico is evident from watching this tournament. Many of the line umpires and ball kids are overweight.

Kyrgios will always play great shots. It's how he builds on them is the question. So far, down a break.
