AAMI classic is an exhibition (non-ATP) event that acts as a tune-up to AO.
Fed has played in it several years long time ago and Roddick has played in
it several years also. Generally, they tend to attract top players.
AAMI classic has 8 player draw, but with an interesting twist in the format.
Every player is guaranteed to play three matches independent of their results.
As a result, this tournament is liked by players who want guaranteed match practice.
No, it is NOT Round Robin format like in WTF. Instead they make the losers
will play with losers. So, there is loser's SF and even a final for big-time
losers. At the end of the tournament, instead of merely proclaiming a
winner of the tournament, they will be able to issue a linearly ordered
list of the eight players based on their performance in this tournament.
Day 1: Four 1st Round cum Quarter Final Matches.
Day 2: Two Real-SF matches for the winners and Two Pseudo-SF matches for the losers.
Day 3: Match pitting losers of Pseudo-SF to settle spots 7 and 8 and
Match pitting losers of Real-SF to settle spots 3 and 4.
Day 4: Match pitting winners of Pseudo-SF to settle spots 5 and 6 and
Match pitting winners of Real-SF to settle spots 1 and 2.
There are 6 players confirmed so far. 2 slots are still open.
1. Berdych
2. Wawrinka
3. Gasquet
4. Nishikori
5. Grigor
6. Hewitt
p.s. On realted news, Fed is playing Tsonga in Melborne on Jan. 8th in an exhibition match
to benefit his foundation. This exo has nothing to do with AAMI classic.
