Happy New Year kids! Here's a new thread for new news.
Lehecka is quite a decent player who climbed up the rankings this last year or so. Doesn't get too many mentions around here I guess, but if you check last year he beat a ton of quality opponents.I see Holger Rune is starting his breakout campaign with a splash. Belly splash, that is.
He injured his back and was out of action for 3 months, after the Madrid Open this year, and has found form, I am not surprised that Rune lost, a hard first round opponent in JiriLehecka is quite a decent player who climbed up the rankings this last year or so. By the way, Fonseca just won a challenger match against Mackenzie McDonald.
I just finished watching highlights of his win in 3 sets against KK. Kei will be in the top 100 in the live rankings next week, he has played just 10 tour level tournaments in the last 18 months I believe., sadly his body has let him down with injuries, in his career to date, when he is 'on' he is great to watch35-year old Kei Nishikori defeated Karen Khachanov in 3 sets. Would love to see a Grigor-esque resurgence from him. If Sascha Zverev is the best player never to win a Slam, Nishikori might be the best player never to win a big title.
And really, going back to 2022, he has played a total of 10 ATP tour level events (including this one) over the last 3+ years. 0 in 2022, 1 in 2023, 8 in 2024, 1 so far in 2025.I just finished watching highlights of his win in 3 sets against KK.
