2019 Roland Garros Semifinal: Djokovic vs. Thiem

Djokovic leads the H2H record 6-2 (3-2 on Clay) including their last meeting at Madrid last month. This will be their third meeting in four years at Roland Garros. Djokovic won in 2016 and Thiem won in 2017.

It could potentially be a great match if weather permits...

This could be quite a match. Probably not on the level of Wawrinka/Tsitsipas, but definitely worth watching. (Arguably more than the Fedal SF.)

Novak will be acutely aware of being two matches away from winning all four majors in a row again, and Thiem is the right guy to make him question his game. Thiem will want to get to the final again to show last year wasn’t a fluke, so he’ll be very motivated, too, but ultimately he has less to lose, and will be able to play more freely than Novak.

I am getting this feeling Thiem breaks through against Nole in a really big moment, but that it takes five sets. Novak will be feeling the pressure more than Dominic.

Domi in 4. Probably helps him that he lost to Djoke last month. He'll go back and watch the film of where he went wrong. I think he has a chip on his shoulder this year and feels that it's his time to beat the big 3 and the Kang at RG.

Doesn’t matter what happens in the final? If there is any question about that? Kang will eat him alive and we will witness another boring french final, like 2018 and 2017. Not enough of that? even as a non Novak fan, it sucks!

I don't think Novak is not focused. He is very focused and it is the exact reason why he is the favourite. He is living for this, for making records and he doesn't look any less impressive than in 2016 when he beat Thiem in straight sets. I know Thiem is a better player now and I like him a lot, but I have to give an edge to Novak due to experience and handling matches like this.

It should be a close one and a pleasure to watch.
