Serena leads the series 4-0

These two haven't played since 2013 Beijing R2. Elena has never taken a set from Williams.

I don't really think Serena has too much to worry about her stumbling block had been finals.

Serena does not have to attend her wedding on Saturday. So, I would say Serena in straight sets.
There is no need to justify the selection. Further the disparity is now gone, both players get a day of rest before the next match (unlike in QF where SW was playing for a third day in a row).

So real talk: Do we think Serena gets it done here #22 and #7 Wimbledon? My heart wants to say yes, but my head is like she has fooled you before on her runs up to finals. If her serve shows up and net play remains solid, I can't see why she wouldn't.

So, Serena has an opponent to whom nobody gives an iota of a chance to win the match. Morevoer, this opponent is a doubles player with a good net play. Further, she has nothing to lose. Sounds eerily similar to R. Vinci. :devil

Just kidding, I think Serena will win. Having said that, she must always be on guard against any opponent and especially innocuous opponents. I think Serena has learnt enough lessons and will take Vesnina seriously.

Vesnina was scheduled to play ladies doubles and mixed doubles matches on Wednesday. She played ladies doubles and won the match. However, she gave a walkover in the mixed doubles matches, presumably to save herself for the singles match of tomorrow (poor Bruno, must be hard considering they were #2 seeds and the #1 seed of Sania and Dodig have already lost).

Just in case, you do not get enough of Serena vs. Vesnina in the singles semifinal, you can get double dose (pun intended) of it in the doubles QF match scheduled later in the day ( Venus & Serena vs. Vesnina & Makaraov).

I think it helps that she plays first today. By playing first, she doesn't know Venus' fate yet and so that won't affect her mentally.

As for the final, no matter who is there, she will be tight at some point during the match, probably as she gets closer to the finish line. The thing is, will she be able to fight through the nerves and lift her level when that time comes. That's what has kept her at 21. She hasn't been able to raise her aggressive level in the last few finals and that's allowed her opponent to be aggressive instead.

This isn't a gimme match for Serena. Everyone knows that she struggles at the net. Vesnina will try and bring her to net hoping to force some passing shot errors or missed volleys.

That was a dumb move on Vesnina's part I would have at least waited until after the singles to make that walkover decision in mixed.

Vesnina didn't play badly, but Serena was on fire. I hope she can maintain this form into the final Venus or Kerber.

I think it's a mental thing w/ Venus and certain players or even certain days. Like she had issues w/ CSN before, but beat her pretty handily here.

Serena secures her #1 ranking by how much will depend on the outcomes of Venus vs. Kerber and the final.

This match was like Mercedes summer event. It is gone like a shotting star if you don't catch it on time. :)
