Not too many folks have realised yet that Novak is close to doing the Novak slam. This one and RG and it's in the bag. That will elevate him. As much as I love the old guy, I think it's time the crowd starts being a bit more impartial when those 2 play. I must confess it makes me feel a bit uncomfortable these days

The New York crowd was far more boisterous... I don't mind Partisanship and I think Federer has deserved it. Likewise, I think Nole might find himself in that position as and when he is an elder statesman of the sport. But I only like it when the player has earned the applause.

What I don't like... the crowd going nuts on clear unforced errors, double faults etc....

That was the NYC crowd last year. But the match had been delayed several hours and the spectators had spent that time drinking, so they were understandably rowdy.

Elated with the result! Can't wait to watch the replay. Was able to see the first three games of the first set and knew it was going to be fine. Djokovic was in the zone. :good:

Not a surprising result. Djokovic is too strong at this tournament and you can tell he is very confident playing Roger at majors after two fairly easy wins on the fast court slams last year. Meanwhile the flip side is Roger naturally now doubts himself more against Novak than he used to. The Novak and Rafa matchups are obviously different but the one glaring similarity is Roger simply can't handle either of their serves. They get WAYYY too many free points. Unlike Rafa, Nole has a very good serve but he's not Pete Sampras by any means. Roger is struggling with it bad enough and has for a long time that you'd mistake it for the best serve on tour.

Federer did really well to reach the semi's at 34,

seems as if 2016 is a reproduction of 2015 for Djokovic. and the bonus of this season is he's undefeated, so has the 2011/supermac1984, 42-0 win/loss streak to go for..which could very well start hoving into view at this rate.

I am not pleased with the result, but what can you say? What Novak did to Roger in the first two sets – – on a hardcourt of all places to (recall that Federer has the most majors and most overall titles on hard courts)-- no one has ever done to him before. The level Novak was exhibiting in the first 50 minutes of this match basically won the match and was unlike anything Roger has ever seen. I personally believe it was even superior to Rafael Nadal did in the 2008 French Open. Yep, Roger Claude his way back in and actually won a competitive set against Novak in the third. The fourth set was likewise competitive, but Novak hit a passing shot the clip the top of the net that Roger's racquet was right there to put away a volley up the line and instead of it being 40–30, it was 30–40 and breakpoint against Roger. To his credit, Novak won that game and then served it out like a champion to win 6-3 in The fourth. Novak was at an unbelievable level from the back of the court. He destroyed not all a few weeks ago playing like this and he basically did the same against Roger. He will win his sixth Australian open and he will definitely win more majors this year in my view. I thought he would have a bit of a letdown from last year, but I'm not so certain anymore. Many things may have to be adjusted and he may very well Fly right by Rafael and Pete in the next year or two It is scary how much he has separated himself from everyone else. I know I should not say that it is his title already, but I sincerely believe neither Andy nor Milosz can come close to this level for long enough to beat him. You would have to play like a backboard with no pace and drive him nuts, the way not all used to do to Roger. Even then, I think he is mentally so strong now that he would find away in the biggest moments to overcome that. He is so focused and so on fire from the back of the court. Wow!

Djokovic seems to be playing against himself - in that he is always working on improving his game incrementally in the areas that need it. What he has done with his serve the past few years is impressive. With his foot speed and defensive skills, he doesn't need to, but he will one day. The way his team takes the long view regarding his career is excellent and should hold him in good stead for the years ahead.

I always find both players give good honest interviews.

I agree and I don't know if that means that you generally like reading post match interviews for all players, or just in this case, but I really do. I always find something new about players that they willingly or unwillingly reveal. Yeah, many questions are standard that warrant the same ol', same ol' tune...but I still like them.;)
