The Deathless One in routine straights, though Gasquet will run him close in the third, when the war is already over...

I think as fit as Gasquet has become, he is tired from all the tennis he has played. I think it will show in this match. The fact that he is starting a set and a break down mentally will not help either. Roger in straights. I would not mind being surprised by Gasquet though...I don;t mean him winning of course , but making it competitive.

Roger in straight sets. End of the road for Richard. No tie-breakers either. May be a 7-5 set max.

Well, I'm glad to see Gasquet is playing well, and I still think he'll find a way to qualify to London. On the other hand, given the H2H, how well Federer is playing, the time on court for both players and etc and etc, is hard to argue against Federer in three or four. I voted for four, even if am quite worried that the upset might show up...

This match is a case of "Anything you can do, I can do better."

Fed wins in three.

I'm going with Richie in 5 but I know it's a wild idea

Gasquet's BH is more solid.

On faster courts I'd take Fed's backhand on a good day. It's got a much shorter backswing which makes it easier to hug the baseline without being forced to take way too many steps back to line up his shots. Roger's slice is superior and he defense off that side much better. Obviously, if I'm looking to finish off points with bullets, I'd take Richard's backhand and at this point, it is the generally superior shot (probably always was), and you're right, it is more solid and less prone to breaking down. But I was always against looking at shots in isolation. Roger's backhand compliments his game better on faster surfaces.

When I read mrzz post, I was thinking how gasquet's backhand would fit within Federer's game, especially here at the US Open, and thought it would make his performance worse despite the quality of the shot. You nailed it.

Btw, any thoughts on Anderson v Wawrinka? I'm really curious about that match, also given their h2h.

Federer in straights. Nehmeth's quote resonates: "Anything you can do, I can do better."

I just can't see any avenue where Gasquet takes this.

I see your point, as you went to a wider picture. I should have been more specific and say "Gasquet's top spin bh is more solid", or, as you put, less error prone. Taking in to account the slice, the speed of the court, you're right, Federer's bh is in general better.

Anyway, that's the little exception that confirms Nehmeth's general rule.

Edit: Ah, and there's the "good day" part... Federer has more bh bad days than Gasquet, I would guess.
