I almost forgot about this. ftan and I finished tied at the top of the heap after the US Open and I said I'd figure out a tiebreak for the World Tour Finals.

How about this: Each of us picks two semifinalists (1 point each), one runner-up (3 points), and one winner (5 points) - for a total of 10 possible points. Very simple, but effective.

Ballots would be due by November 8, so Saturday. I suppose the one possible glitch would be that we either both pick the same slots, or we pick strategically off each other, adjusting our ballots to try to sneak a win (I don't know if that would be possible). I guess it doesn't matter - just submit yours here by the 8th.

What do you think, ftan? Winner takes all! (Which is nothing, but I guess bragging rights will have to do).

My choices (for now):

Semifinals:
Djokovic vs. Nishikori
Federer vs. Wawrinka

Finals:
Federer over Djokovic

In reality I think Novak wins, but I'm voting for Roger because, well, I'm a homer.

You might want to correct your semi match lineup predictions... :)

Top player in Group A plays Group B second best.

I really like your picks ftan. You not only found a way for Fed to become #1, you found
a way for him to do so without meeting new dad. Way to go. I endorse your picks.

If we weren't competing with each other I am sure, ED would have endorsed my picks too ;)

My secondary picks (read 2 other semi-finalists) aren't looking quite bright right now

But, I don't mind if Kei could beat Novak again. I am not particular that Andy should do
the job.

I think your Murray-for-finalist pick will end up hurting you more than anything. We cancel each other out with the Federer pick, then it comes down to the finalist and two semi-finalists. But don't worry, Stan and Kei have time to blow it for me!

Thats true El Dude, but since you know I want Roger to win YE #1, and for that Nole has to lose in semis , so Murray seemed the right person to beat him in SF

Oh well wishful thinking :)

To be honest, I'd MUCH rather you win if it means that Roger gets year end #1! But I just don't think it will happen, and I tried to balance head and heart with my choices.

I'm not ready to write Andy off yet, but I honestly don't think he'll make the semis - or at least prefer Kei and give him only a slight edge over Milos (EDIT: Now that I see the score, I give him a bit more than slight edge).

But I'm not counting my chickens before they've hatched. Kei and Andy are neck-and-neck, while Milos is 0-2 and pretty much out, I think.

I started to draft a post going out on a limb to congratulate El Dude, because I just can't see Cilic and Murray doing what needs to be done for Billie to win. :nono :lolz: :laydownlaughing :nono

Edit: Sorry Ftan, I got the name wrong.

However, prior to posting I checked the stats for the players, W/L, % of sets won, % if games won.... and the fact is, it ain't over till its over . That's why they play the game :popcorn

Depending on the final scores of the 3rd RR, W/L. #sets won, #games won, we just won't know until the games are over. If someone finds their game on Thursday or Friday, the type of game that got these top 8 players to the table, anyone can still make the SF, even Cilic or Milos :eyepop

As a wise old friend was fond of saying: "more will be revealed"

So El Dude, based on recent games, I gotta think you have the inside track going into the (semi) final stretch, but don't pop the cork on the bubbly just yet, could be you'll just end up kissing your sister in a tie :smooch And that ain't all bad, you both would get some pretty solid bragging rights on TF Boards as the TF Draw Challenge Co-Champs :lolz:

To be honest, ftan, I don't think there's a way that you can win this. You're only surviving picks are Novak and Roger, and we cancel each other out with Roger. Even if Novak goes out in the SF and we get even points for him, I've got an extra point for Kei and I may get another point for Wawrinka. So I think it is clinched.

I feel a bit like a year-end #1 who didn't win a Slam, as I didn't win any of hte individual Slams. Speaking of which, I may reconfigure the competition next year to be more like a ranking system and a year-end #1 and rankings based on a similar system as the ATP (e.g. 2000 for a Slam win, or 1st in points in the Challenge, 1200 for second place, etc).
