Serena leads the H2H 13-2

Maria won her first set off Serena in 5 years at the Miami final this year. They met for the first time on red clay in the final of Madrid last month. Serena took the match in straight sets.

Maria is the defending champ while Serena is the current #1.

Who will reign supreme on Saturday?

I am going with Serena in two or three sets. Masha has more pressure defending this slam and playing Serena, and Serena has nothing to lose except this title she has wanted again for 11 years. If Serena wins here, her confidence will be brimming, and it will be hard to stop her elsewhere as this has been her hardest slam.

Serena in straights. I was not impressed w/ Maria's serve today. Unless she completely turns the serve around Sat, I don't see her winning a set at this time.

Well Serena has some work to do before Saturday as well like landing her first serve ;). Errani didn't have the weapons to make it a problem for Serena today, and while Maria is a headcase when it comes to Serena hitting a lot of second serves from Serena just might improve Masha's mentality.

Well, if everything goes the way it normally goes on Saturday, Maria will fall to #3 in the world, Azarenka regaining the #2 ranking. Azarenka adds 620 points for making the semis and Maria will lose 600 for losing in the final. So it'll be Maria that will have to worry about which side of the draw she falls on.

Serena will beat her pigeon Pova in 2 very easy sets.. Pova has nothing that can trouble Serena.. as I said numerous of times and I see the commentators are starting to repeat it, "Serena biggest hurdle is just that sometimes she can get out of her own Way".. I know it sounds straight forward and plain but its the Truth.

A lot of kids all over the world are learning to serve like Serena and coaches are busy watching Rena s tapes...just like she said as a 10yr old that she want them to be like her..
Good luck in the final!

Well hopefully Serena throws everything and the kitchen sink into this match and stays on the same narrative she has with Maria.

But I think Maria can get #2 back depending on how far she goes at Wimby. Vika got to the SF last year, but Maria was knocked out in R16 (I think).

What else are they gonna talk about? Her match was only 40 min long and I'm sure they had more TV time bought for these matches.

Besides, people can talk about it all day, but until someone goes out and executes the appropriate plan successfully, it's just that, TALK.

Well, going away for the weekend and watching the men's semi and possibly final but this one is pointless to watch as everyone knows the result including poor Sharapova. Punters should try and bet how many games she'll win.

Yeah, she can get back to #2. But, she'll go into Wimbledon at #3. That is the key. It means that she could end up in Serena's half instead of Vika's. She was #2 here so she could only meet Serena in the final. She ended up with Vika in her half but beat her. Now she has to play one of them. If she held on to her #2 spot she could have gotten lucky and had Vika fall in Serena's half and made the final with little resistance. That's all I was pointing out. I say little resistance. At Wimbledon there are more players that can test and/or beat her. But, Serena and Vika are still her biggest problems.

Agree. Maria will try to tee-off on Serena's second serve, unless she spins them out wide. Serena did that in Madrid and Maria had difficulty with that type of serve. The serve was always rising and this threw Maria's timing off.

Pova tees off on everything not just second serve. Maria only knows one speed, hard or even harder
