Nadal has won the last umpteen meetings. Can Berd delay Rafa's destiny with #1?

Not likely is it?

No, it isn't likely. I think Rafa in straights...

Well, by the way, to give Berdych great credit today, he must have been hot to dismantle Isner's serve so often. I didn't see it, but at least 3 breaks. Berdych isn't doing too bad, for the main part, but he sits perched nicely in Rafa's firing range - and there's no way he's keeping Nadal from #1 spot. Just can't visualise it, as the famous last words go...

I knew Berdych had strong legs but that photo really shows just how strong his quads are. Pretty monstrous for a tennis player. Must do quite a lot of heavy squatting.

I'm not as concerned about this one as I was about Fognini, for the match-up reasons, but I'll stay up, anyway. I hope Rafa is inspired, not tired, and Berdych has nothing tricky up his sleeve.

Berdych is the only top 10 guy I always pencil in a win over. I give every other top 10 guy a chance vs Nadal (albeit obviously small).

Kind of, but the 2011 AO loss was very annoying (Nadal going for The Rafa Slam and Ferrer....). Whereas even if Nadal is injured, I'm still confident that Nadal beats Berdych.

Nadal is not beating anyone professional with just one healthy hamstring, like against David at the AO.

Shame for Berdych about the back spasm. Why do they make the poor fellow carry his own bags off the court in that condition?

Well, that was anti climatic.

Anyways, congratulations to Rafael Nadal for becoming World Number 1 again! I never thought he would become number one again because of his knee issues. But, once again he proves us wrong.

The good thing about this retirement is he could rest up a little bit more especially after that long match against Fognini yesterday.

Also, Nadal has now reach his 13th final of the year which is a personal record for him. So, kudos to that!

This is a disappointing one for Berdych, seems like a new injury picked up during the match. Back injury, too, so that mightn't go away before Shanghai, or even the end of the year, depending on the extent of it...

Hope that it's just a little sore ... :s

Back injury is the most common cause of tennis retirement. The future of tennis is not looking bright, with all these stars having back problems-

I am not quite getting you...Have you ever played tennis on one leg? Nadal had one healthy leg that day and any player who is a pro would have beaten him that day. he did not run for anything.
