We've seen many memorable moments at the Australian Open over the years, but to this day nothing eclipses Serena Williams' near-miraculous run to the title in 2007.

She entered the tournament ranked No. 81, having barely played a match since her fourth round loss in New York to Amelie Mauresmo. Nevertheless, a focused and determined Serena fought her way to the title, point by point.

I can't find clips of her first two wins, so I'll just post the scores:

R128 -- Santangelo -- 6-2, 6-1
R64 -- Kremer -- 7-6(4), 6-2

R32 -- Petrova -- 1-6, 7-5, 6-3

R16 -- Jankovic -- 6-3, 6-2

Quarterfinal -- Peer -- 3-6, 6-2, 8-6

Semifinal -- Vaidisova -- 7-6(5), 6-4

^ I think the officials were still in green mode from the past at the AO,remember the good old days it used to be played on Grass at Kooyong:)

The Petrova, Peer and Vaidsova matches were great to watch! She put on a display of tennis that is not often seen on the WTA. In several of the matches she throws back her upper body and lets out this roar while saving break points that send chills down your spine. The 2007 AO, imo, says everything about who she is as a tennis player.

The AO has such a weird history. It's so strange to think that in the not so distant past it was often skipped.

,

Reason being was because of its scheduling especially in the early 70's when it was scheduled to be played in December, right in the Christmas holiday period.Players from Europe complained of the date,I dont blame.Players needed time off and a break.Thank goodness times have changed.
