With the last 2 ladies standing in the year end championship final, I quickly realized something, both are over 30 years old.

So now with the rise of the top Chinese female player to her best ranking ever, number 3 in the world, we have two 30 something-year-old in top 3!

Unprecedented! At least in this century...

How long will this last?
Is this a trend of things to come?
Are 30 some-year-olds going to be a major part of the tour?

Discuss.

Might be tough for Li to hang on to #3 when Maria comes back. Li won a small AO warm-up and got to the finals of the AO. She needs to defend those points and then she could make up some ground because she didn't play much after Australia.

Exactly, early on in the year, it will be tough for Li to hang on to her top 3 ranking due to the points she is defending, but I don't see her going anywhere. She should be in the top 4 for sometime, since she doesn't have anything substantial to defend, after Aussie series, till the Wimbledon. Here is to the hoping that she wins at least one slam in the next year. She had two wonderful chances this year at the Australian Open and the Wimbledon.

She might slip to no.4 if she does not perform well during the Australian Open series, but I don't see her falling any further given the fact that Radwanska is also defending a lot of points during the Australian Open series.

She may have a crack at world no.2 spot if she performs well. She can achieve the feat till Wimbledon, since Vika and Maria both have a lot to defend, while Li has not that much to defend.

Well keep in mind Sharapova isn't defending anything really after the French, so she can only go up. Li has quite a bit to defend in the second half of the year surprisingly.

She always does good on that swing, she scored 1880 points between 3 events last year. Compare that to Serena's 970 points between 2 events.
Li has Lots to lose!
