I thought maybe he deserved his own thread. I saw there were several mentions in the General News thread. I was never a fan, but he was a solid Top 10 guy for many years. Some career highlights:

* Career high ranking #4
* Paris Bercy win 2005
* Wimbledon final in 2010; SFs in all the other Majors at least once.
* Davis Cup wins for Czech Republic in 2012, 2013

And while he didn't have great H2H v. Big 3, he had some signature wins:

* Upset Federer at the Olympic Games in 2004, their first meeting
* Beat both Djokovic and Federer at 2010 Wimbledon to make the final
* Beat Nadal in QF of 2015 AO
* Come-back win over Novak Rome 2013

It's also said he's very funny on Twitter. Good luck with the next chapter, Tomas.

His game is reasonably good, the main weakness being his predictability which makes it easy for the opponents to deal with him.

I wish him also the best.
Pretty complete game, FH strongest shot. Mentally not that stable and lack of consistency, but that could be said for everyone except the 3.
He was straight forward , had edges not everybody’s darling.
And last but not least, damn good taste in women :yesyes: ;-):.

Known as Mr. Easy Power he could absolutely belt seven shades of shit out of the ball and it didn't look like he was even trying unlike say Thiem who you can see is clearly laying into his shots to hit them as hard as possible.

Its always said to see someone go, but this is not a surprise. I almost feel like that loss to Roger in the 2017 AO was the final straw that broke him from being an elite player. He's been a mainstay in the upper echelons for a good 15 years or so. I always pair him with Tsonga, as they had similar career primes and danced around together in the bottom half of the top 10 for the last decade.

The weird thing about Berdych is for all his easy power, he didn't often have super hot days where he looked unplayable and troubled the elite. With the exception of a win over Djokovic when he was in complete shambles (Wimbledon 2010) and Nadal in his worst ever year (2015 AO), his only notable wins came against Roger when he was going through a rough patch in form during that time where he was struggling with big hitters.

Conversely, to be fair to him, his ground game was far more consistent than many other big hitters so he was constantly achieving decent results because he didn't need an especially hot day to beat good players.

Exactly. He was in the Top 10 from mid-2010 (post Wimbledon final) through almost all of 2016.

We had a Berdych fan on the boards -- Kirijax. Too bad he does not post anymore. Was located in Japan. Probably got eaten by a monster.
