The Tournament:

The event is played at the Bastad Tennis Stadium a few hundred yards from Bastad Beach along the Kattegatt Sea. The ATP's SkiStar Swedish Open is staged at the same facility, which has more courts than any venue in the country, the week after the Collector Swedish Open in July.

About Bastad

The town of Bastad is located in a sheltered bay with the Hallandian ridge stretching behind it. The town borders the shore, whereafter the terrain raises until the dense vegetation of the ridge takes over.

The first city privileges were granted in the 14th or 15th century, when the area belonged to Denmark. The first certain date is 1513 when it was re-granted. The name translates to "Boat (landing) place". It is one of Denmark's typical summer resorts.

Well for a change I've got a little bad to say about Caroline. Don't know if you saw her first match in Baastad, but the word "tanking" came into my mind. Won first set up 21 and 40-0 in the second and suddenly she seemed to lose interest in the match and only got one point in the rest of second set. Behind 02 in third set before she "decided" to win the match. 40!!!!! unforced errors and 6 df. Worst match this year.
Tanking is a nasty word to use but if people don't want to play a tournament they should not take part. Small "injuries" are also a well known problem in female tennis - miraculously they play the next week. WTA should make a rule that if you are injured you can't play the following week. Both to protect players under pressure and against fake injuries. MTO is another thing - if you can't play - you are out. Only if it's about players falling or situations on the court - the UMPIRE can decide if there shall be a timeout. MTOs are normally IMHO used to ruin the opponents rythm. Well folks so much because of a lousy tennismatch.

Yeah Ron but the difference today was that she was fighting - also in the lost second set. She played better against a better oponent. She's developed to a bit of a dramaqueen hasn't she ;) Well she and all her fans survived and we're ready for the next battle. She's also a dramaqueen when she met Gobulic first time in Dubai, but that was another reason - have a look:

Wonder why you have made it so you can't edit your post the day after - like writing result etc. Why not?

I think this was more of a historical thing from ages ago when some people edited or deleted posts that rendered some replies further in the thread kind of meaningless

It was a disappointing loss. Any word on the injury to Caroline's wrist?

Nothing serious with her wrist - you saw both players were a bit sore because of the very humid conditions specially on the final day where it was pouring dowqn quite heavily. Don't know how much extra weight to the balls and other influence from the court but you must use extra force. She has a week off before next tournament in Toronto - I think she'll be ready for that. Now she's training with Sascha on The McCenroe academy in NY.
