Kyrgios — he’s never played here before. In the first round, he faces his compatriot, John Millman, who beat Nick the only time they ever played, in the first round of the 2017 USO.

Stars on display, but also worth pointing out: Tiafoe is defending the title.

Tiafoe lost again in the opening round to a qualifier, same like last week.
The young Anerican is very inconsistent.

That was a poor performance. He made some bad choices in key moments. Very back-and-forth match, but Frances let it slip away.

At least Evans is a better opponent than Jung, who beat him last week.

For sure, but poor excuse, anyway. I'm not sure who coaches him, but he needs a strategist.

Del Potro wins the first. It's been interesting to watch him in this first match back. Nishioka is a tricky customer, and not an easy first start. Keep trying to look for the keys, but hard to decide where Juan is. At first, he was using the 2HBH a lot, which I thought was a good sign. (Left wrist strong.) Then he started slicing more. Sometimes the FH looked great, sometimes really soft. Really hard to figure out where he is right now.

Absolutely. His first event since Shanghai last October.

He has 1,000 points to defend in IW in a few weeks. Hopefully he’ll be ready.

He can be ready all he wants! It'll be a miracle if he makes the SF with everyone else at the height of their powers! I feel the same about Roger making the final; a big "ask" to defend points when the opposition has a clean slate! Nole esp. has so little to defend the 1st few months of the season and can swing for the fences with impunity! :p  :ptennis:

Kyrgios goes down in 3 sets to Albot. I am not surprised.
