This poor guy! He's only partially responsible for his plight! Unfortunately he came along when the Big 3 were still at their collective heights! He got no respite from greatness when Carlos & Jannik jumped into the fray! I don't give him complete absolution b/c he had the ability to best them all, but he was held back by his own self-doubt! He didn't totally waste his time as he did win 2 YEC's & an OGM in Japan beating Djokovic along the way back in 2021! He has to be an All Time top 10 Tour earner! IIRC, Djokovic won the 1st Four Big Events of the season a few yrs. ago! OTTH we're talking AO, IW, Miami, then Monte Carlo!:fearful-face::anxious-face-with-sweat::face-with-hand-over-mouth:
Oh please dont make me laugh? held back by his own self doubt LOL he is a Mental Midget and always blame others for his failings eg Losses, even at the AO this year, where I watched the SF live, he was serving for the match and what happened same old same old and his excuse that time was he was tireder than Alcaraz? LOL! Pathetic!
He has a Poor fhand and has done nothing to improve his game since he came on tour full stop!
He relies too much on his serve, his second serve has always given him the Yips
His game is limited, has No B plan when his primary conservative baseline game is not Effective
He has had some good coaches in his career, JCF, Lendl and Ferrer who havent lasted long, Lendl saying he is a poor trainer?
He went to Rafa Nadal Academy last year and want Toni Nadal to coach him, that failed,Toni told him to stay aggressive, I think he dosent have the talent or the shotmaking skills for that quite frankly!.
The top players always try to 'tweak their games' in order to have some type of advantage over their rivals, Zverev has done nothing in that department, he just relies on his limited game, a reason why he wont win a GS title! apart from his midget mental ability.

Zverev on facing Sinner and the successive losses against him,
" Currently Sinner is the toughest player I face. When you dont play at your maximum against him, you have no chance at all. It's like playing against a wall because he dosent leave you any space or opportunity".

I like Draper but I dont know if he'll return to being the player he was before the injury.
The problem is that to challenge Carlos and Jannik you need a consistency in performance and results that no one can manage to deliver, presently,. In a singles tournament they might even lose, but over the course of the entire season, they're untouchable
The bright light in the tunnel for me is Fonseca, he has the game to challenge, presently he needs to develop a bit more, in his movement and defense, he is only 19 yo and is still growing physically, he has already faced the Big 3 this year and has done well against them.

It’s gonna be an interesting final. I’m taking Carlos to win because he’s the much better player, but currently he’s way below his level from earlier in the season. This match is enough to rouse him…

Wind is a factor today as shanks are abundant.

I wonder how the NBA players would fair with their beloved 3 point shots if they had to play in windy conditions.

First set TB about to start. Not a whole lot between the two.

Sinner netted a sitter at the net at set point but Alcaraz did one better with a double fault to hand the set to Sinner. Kind of a bummer when points are lost instead of won at crunch time.

Both players struggling with the wind so far, you need to play with more patience and much higher margin for error when its like this, the one who recognises this and adjust will probably win, the wind is a good leveller in tennis.

First serves in the TB Sinner 6/6 and Alcaraz 2/6, serve is important especially in TB and in these windy conditions
Sinner 1st set 76(5) Sinner had the early break in the TB, Carlos got it back, then the set was on Sinners racquet he missed a sitter, then Carlos returned the favor with a DF......oh tennis!

Sinner is in better form right now. Alcaraz had his chances today, but failed to keep the level. Wind was a factor today, but not that much. We still watched a good quality tennis overall.

With Sinner winning IW/Miami and Monte Carlo in a single year he is the first player since Djokovic (2015) to reach and win 4 Masters 1000 consecutively
17th straight win
27th career win

Jannik Forza!

Monte Carlo and RG are the only 2 tournaments that play the winners national anthem
Italy Forza, I have tears in my eyes

Great speech from Carlos what a young champion he is, even in defeat, it is a hard task to beat you on clay young man

Serve in Key moments TB was a big factor, but off the ground Sinner dominated the BH cross court, Alcaraz stroke is flatter and more compact, has to thread the needle that much more today and it cracked often, Carlos had 14 BH errors missed long, a lot of errors,, from the bh side in a 2 set match
Sinners mini comebacks in those 2 sets was impressive, never let Alcaraz's momentum bother him and seemed to have faith he'd always get more opportunities and was ready to pounce, when he ultimately did.
Alcaraz in the 2nd set resorted increasingly to the drop shot on crucial points he had success with it early on, but to me, it seemed like he just could not over power Sinner from the baseline and was running out of ideas in the long rallies, as Sinner was hitting everything back deep and hard.

I've mentioned this before, but does Alcaraz-Sinner remind anyone else of McEnroe-Lendl? Not exact, but it seems to be another example of "wild artistry" vs. "disciplined onslaught." It also seems to be the case that if Alcaraz can't bring his very best, he'll lose.

Jannik and his team will decide in a few days if he plays Madrid, personally I hope he dosent, I have always hated Madrid, it dosent prepare you for Roma or RG. Jannik playing IW/Miami and Monte Carlo, I know there is a break now before Madrid, still I feel Jannik needs a rest he isnt a machine.

"His greatest quality is his work ethic he always gives 100%, in training and in matches,.What he's done in the last month is extraordinary. On a human level that he hasnt changed despite the success, he's remained the same person"

Simone Vagnozzi ( one of Janniks coaches as Darren Cahill wasnt at Monte Carlo)

BTW,
Jannik won IW, Miami, Monte Carlo,
17 matches
17 victories and losing just 1 set! Insanity!
