We went to the Elvis doc. Jeez that man was great! I didn’t remember how great until I watched this, a phenomenal film. 70’s Elvis requires an upgraded assessment. His peerless voice is a given, and his shaky moves and impeccable rhythm and timing, but his sense of humour and the fact that he was also the musical director for a band that was basically an orchestra with voices was really impressive.
Humble, hunky, never hit a bum note in his life, tackled high notes like they were featherweights, such a man! I’m gonna try go see it again, I give Baz Lurhmann huge kudos for making this, and also for not taking the cheap route on making the end maudlin and sentimental.
It’s a tour de force. You’ll dance in your seat, and you’ll laugh a lot too, Elvis had a great, self deprecating sense of humour. “I get down on my knees,” he croons at one stage, then after a beat - “except the costume is a bit tight.”
If you like him, you’ll love him in this. If you hate him, you’ll love him too..
